Book Review – Sword Of The Truth

This book review is for the Sword of the Truth Series, by Terry Goodkind. Since my reading scope on the classic Fantasy genre is not very broad, I may not be the best source to rely on this for this book review. With that disclaimer thrown out there, I must admit that this is my favorite Fantasy series. As soon as I picked up the first book, Wizard’s First Rule, I was enthralled. I could not wait to read the second book, then the third, and so on (I believe there are ten books in total). The author has the most prized ability to make all of the characters incredibly real to the readers. Even the villains throughout the series seem to be alive, and I felt like I could understand their motivations. To me, that makes the “bad guy” a lot more intimidating; because they are so believable in what they are doing. There are more than one villain in this series, though they are usually presented one at a time, each new villain even more frightening than the previous one.

While I really enjoyed reading this series, it is not recommended for the faint of heart. There are some seriously dark conflicts presented that the protagonists have to work through. If you are sensitive about violence, this book may not be for you. With that being said, I did admire how the author was able to talk about some horrendously evil things while not going into too much detail. He was able to skim over the nitty gritty parts while still painting a vivid picture. In the first book, he does give graphic detail to a torture scene, but it seemed true to the story because we were in the hero’s head while he was figuring out how to cope with the situation, and it made him a very strong character to be admired through the other books.

I also loved how the author made very strong female characters. They were able to hold their own and fight battles in the face of serious conflict. The female protagonist was a character that I very much looked up to.

The author was able to create many plots for each book, making every book hold its own interesting story while continuing on the basic plot that began with the first book. The plot twists were well done and believable, and the character development was practically flawless.

I have been asked my opinion on the mini-series based on the books. I think it is called Legends of the Seeker, or something similar to that. While I have never watched more than one episode all the way through, I can honestly say that the show held no power over me. I did not care for the cast chosen to play such strong characters, and the plot lines seemed totally different from the series. Granted, I may not have given the show much of a chance with only watching one episode, but if it doesn’t pull me in from the beginning, then I do not think it is worth the effort to try and give it another chance.

So, the question is, will I keep these books and add them to my library? Definitely. I could read each of these books again and still be completely enthralled and thoroughly entertained!

Convictions for murders, drug dealing, and other criminal enterprises have been obtain through continued use of RICO.

To date, there has not been a terrorist attack by al-Qaeda in California. This is due in large part to the investigative efforts of law enforcement authorities who foiled the plans of al-Qaeda members to detonate a bomb at Los Angeles International Airport during the 2000 millennium celebrations, and a 2002 plot to crash a plane into the U.S. Bank Tower (a.k.a. Liberty Tower) also in Los Angeles.

Investigation of a prison-based group known as Jamiyyat Ul-Islam Is Saheeh raised awareness of the potential for terrorist radicalization within the prison system, which will continue to garner significant attention from authorities in an effort to prevent the group from becoming a serious threat.

The movie was filmed in Vancouver and Seattle, the setting for the story, so the film has an edgy bohemian chic perfect for dressing Aniston up in a number of outfits that may be too casual for New York, but are perfect in the Pacific northwest. You could even watch Love Happens online with the sound off so as to concentrate on all the great ideas for perfecting the kind of bohemian style that Aniston pulls off so well here.

There’s no problem with watching the handsome Eckhart – him with the lantern jaw and dimpled chin – as he wears a series of sartorially perfect creations, either. However, he left the NBA for a lucrative two year deal that landed him in Israel, where he led Macabbi Tel Aviv to a league championship last season, and even won the MVP of the finals.

While it’s clear that Arroyo would play behind Baron Davis in Los Angeles, some wonder whether this would land Sebastian Telfair in the dog house. After all, there’s little room for a third-string point guard on a team, as he’d typically see less than ten minutes per game.

Arroyo is agreeably a more reliable option than Telfair, but many are concerned about Arroyo’s past. He’s often been seen as a clubhouse distraction.

He had a hard time getting along with each of his last two NBA coaches, as both Jerry Sloan and Stan Van Gundy had problems with his attitude during his tenure with the Jazz and Magic.

Still, at 30 years old and after a stint overseas, it can be said that Arroyo may have reached a new maturity point in his career, ready to put those days behind him.

Since the Clippers had previously been setting their hopes on Ramon Sessions (formerly of the Bucks), it looks like Arroyo becomes all the more valuable to the team. Public Enemies stars Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard, and Christian Bale and is directed by Michael Mann. This is just the movie for you, if you want something that is low key and quite different from the summer blockbuster season. However, do not expect to be completely charmed and mesmerized by this movie.

The Public Enemies movie centers around the most famous outlaw in the 1930s, a notorious bank robber called John Dillinger and examines his fall from grace. The film attempts to show this in a romantic light. As expected, Johnny Depp portrays the character of Dillinger excellently. He adds so much feeling to Dillingers story thanks to his onscreen charisma. Christian Bale on the other hand delivers a pretty good job of playing an FBI agent, Melvin Plus, who is in charge of capturing Dillinger.

From start to finish, Dillinger portrays an aura of confidence, skill and loyalty which makes him a magnet in the eyes of many. At first he gets separated from the gang, but later joins them again and is seen planning and executing meticulous and rapid bank robberies in as little as two minutes. A more likeable side to Dillinger is seen too, when he does not take the possessions of the people present in the bank he robs have.

The main aspect of the Public Enemies movie is the FBI formation and how one Mr.Hoover (who is portrayed by Billy Crudup) sets his highest priority as nabbing John Dillinger to prove a point to political doubters. He is the one who gives Purvis(Christian Bale) responsibility for bringing Dillinger down. Hoover seems to prefer newer and more scientifically advanced techniques to capture John Dillinger, but the audience soon realizes that only a combination of both these modern techniques as well as old school methods can help to capture someone like Dillingers caliber.

Billy Crudup plays the part of Mr. Hoover who forms the FBI to catch John Dillinger, making this objective the number 1 priority. He mainly does this to prove himself to his doubters. Melvin Purvis is then assigned the job of heading the FBI operation to capture John Dillinger.

Though Christian Bale does not have a very significant role to play, he manages to leave a mark. Marion Cottilard has also delivered an excellent performance playing Dillingers love interest.
